Ian Salinas, affectionately known as Professor Ian to his students, is the top-ranking black belt instructor at Victorum Athletics. He started his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 16 years ago after being captivated by the sport while watching UFC and seeing Royce Gracie compete. Witnessing Royce's victories against various martial artists, Ian felt compelled to learn, saying, "I gotta learn that!". He commenced his training journey in 2007 under the guidance of Samuel Braga. In 2008, he trained under Kazeka Muniz, and later in 2012, he moved to GB Northridge under Romulo Barral, where he continues to train to date and received his black belt in 2017. As an active competitor, Ian has had an impressive track record in the sport. He placed third at the IBJJF American Nationals in 2022, took second place at the IBJJF Santa Cruz Open the same year, and achieved first place in the NABJJF Orange Open. Furthermore, he claimed victory in his super fight at Fight2Win Los Angeles in 2023. As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Ian aspires to guide his students to compete to the best of their ability at their respective levels in the sport. He relishes sharing his technical knowledge and personal experiences on how Jiu-Jitsu helped him overcome adversities both on and off the mat. Beyond the gym, Professor Ian leads a fulfilling life as an insurance sales manager. He is a dedicated husband and father to two beautiful children and two family dogs. In his spare time, he enjoys weightlifting and barbecuing.

General Manager

Adult Intro/Beginners Head Instructor

Kids Competition Head Instructor

Frank Balcorta Jr, also known as Professor Frank, is the founder and one of the lead instructors at Victorum Athletics. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 2010 in Lancaster under Kazeka Muniz, later receiving his purple belt from Jacare Calvacanti. In 2015, he joined the world-renowned GB Northridge and received his black belt from the legendary Romulo Barral in 2019. Witnessing firsthand the transformative power of BJJ, he turned his passion into his profession. In 2017, while pursuing his Master's degree at Pepperdine University, he founded Victorum Athletics to make this healing art accessible within the Antelope Valley, with the goal of using BJJ to improve the quality of life for others. Training under masters like Romulo Barral and practicing alongside athletes such as Gabriel Arges and Edwin Najmi, Frank developed a distinct BJJ style. Specializing in the top game using pressure passing and lateral movement to obtain dominant positions, his favorite submissions are the bow and arrow choke and chokes from top positions. This experience and style feed into his teaching methodology. Frank believes that BJJ is not just a physical sport; it's a mental game that improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It's been a significant factor in enhancing his discipline to persevere through long, painstaking processes. His approach to teaching is focused on providing structure, discipline, and simulated adversity to bring out confidence and character in his students. His most significant achievement to date is using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to improve the mental fortitude, confidence, and discipline of the youth in Victorum Athletics' kids program. With an unwavering dedication to BJJ, Frank's future aspirations include opening multiple Victorum Athletics locations and nurturing talent in the Antelope Valley. He is on a relentless quest for continuous improvement, measured not just in titles or belts but also in increased physical and mental health, broader perspectives on life, and increased happiness with everything around him and his students. When he's not at the gym, Frank enjoys studying the bible, spending quality time with his wife of 16 years and their two children. In addition to his work at the gym, he is a high school teacher and a football coach, instilling discipline, and fostering personal growth in young minds off the mats as well. He finds balance in life with his hobbies that include golf, camping, traveling and actively participating in community work.

Richard Beigel, also known as Professor Richie at the gym, is a co-owner of Victorum Athletics, alongside Professors Ian and Frank. He commenced his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2010 and received his black belt from Bruno Antunes in 2019. Thirteen years ago, Professor Richie became captivated by BJJ when his brother and father-in-law introduced him to the sport. He was drawn to the constant evolution of the sport and appreciated the physical health benefits it offered, viewing it as an enjoyable way to stay fit. He relishes his role as a BJJ instructor, as it allows him to share his experiences and witness the growth and competitive development of young students. Richie has crafted a BJJ style known as "guard player", which enables him to extend his opponents and leave them susceptible to sweeps and attacks from various positions. He shares this style with his students at Victorum to help them become well-rounded athletes in the sport. Away from the gym, Professor Richie has worked for the City of Palmdale for 20 years. In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and playing golf.
